Social change TED-style talks to be presented by College Quest students on Friday

Western’s campus is once again coming alive this summer with the excitement of high school students.

Come and check out the fun from 1:30-3 p.m. on Friday, June 29, with Tara Perry and her Communications 197 class at the Underground Coffeehouse in the Viking Union.

Perry’s Introduction to Communication and Speech class, COMM 197, is part of Western’s College Quest curriculum – a summer program that allows high school students access to college learning and living experiences. High school students enrolled in the course will be presenting a 5-7 minute TED-style talk. Students will be focusing on a social justice issue within America, and will be challenged to not only present a problem, but to also present possible solutions.

This is an opportunity to support teenagers in their pursuit of social change and social justice within America and their own community. A video of 2016’s College Quest students in Perry's class is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TmdFgL_8Qs.

College Quest is a higher education preparatory program for high school students with an academic emphasis. The program’s goal is to introduce students to the college learning and living experience, which gives them an advantage as they plan for the future.
