Shannon Point's Erika McPhee-Shaw to Vice-Chair Prestigious Gordon Conferences this Summer

Erika McPhee-Shaw, director of Western's Shannon Point Marine Center in Anacortes, is vice chair of the Gordon Research Conferences on Coastal Ocean Dynamics from June 11-16 at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, joining co-chairs Ruoying He of North Carolina State University and Jack Barth of Oregon State University. Funding for the Gordon Conferences is provided by NASA, NOAA, the National Science Foundation, and private and corporate donors.

Topics at the conference will include Multi-Scale Interactions of Coastal Physics and Biogeochemistry, Recent Anomalous Ocean Conditions: A View from the U.S. East and West Coasts, High Latitude Coastal Dynamics and Exchange Processes, Coastal Modeling and Data Assimilation, Recent Advances in Estuarine Dynamics, and Coastal Sediment Transport Processes.

Part of McPhee-Shaw's role as vice chair in preparation for the conferences was to arrange speakers to discuss these topics and their resesearch. Speakers at the conference will come from as far as Taiwan, Sweden, the U.K. and Norway, as well as the University of Florida, the University of Washington, Woods Hole Oceanographic Insititution, and others.
