Safe and Warm: Remember to close classroom windows

As "open-window season" comes into full swing, we would like to remind people to close windows when leaving classrooms and other spaces on campus. Windows that are left open present both security and sustainability challenges.

When temperatures plunge as the sun goes down or the wind picks up, the heating system kicks in and generates wasted energy and carbon emissions that simply fly out the window. As Western strives to meet ambitious climate goals, the contributions of all of us are key for success.

Leaving windows open at night also invites intrusion and leaves our people and spaces vulnerable to potential mischief and damage. Please be considerate of fellow community members and help ensure that all spaces on campus are secure, efficiently heated, and comfortable.
