Popular glassblowing class, open to the public, returns for fall quarter

Western Washington University’s College of Fine and Performing Arts will offer two Introduction to Glassblowing classes beginning Sept. 27 at Morrison Glass Art in Bellingham; the class is open to community members.

Course material will include the history and design elements of the centuries-old art of glassblowing and the business of selling glass art. Participants will receive 24 hours of hands-on studio work to create their own masterpieces. The course will culminate with students’ presentations and a critique of their final projects.

The glassblowing classes will be taught by award-winning artists Christopher Morrison and Alan Anders at Morrison Glass Art LLC, just two miles from Western’s campus.

Morrison received his bachelor’s degree in Art at Hartwick College in 1984, and studied glass art with the famed Dale Chihuly in Seattle. Anders received his bachelor’s degree in Motion Graphics and Experimental Animation at the California Institute of the Arts in 1986.

No previous glassblowing experience is necessary to enroll in the semiweekly course, which is offered in a Monday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday afternoon format. Class size is limited to 16 students. Students will earn four credits upon successful completion of the course.
