Need tax help? WWU's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program runs Feb. 11 to April 8

Working with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Certified Tax Preparers, can help you file an accurate tax return and get the refund you are due

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at WWU is now open for the 2026 tax filing season.

VITA offers professional, no-cost assistance with filing basic tax returns for students, staff, faculty, and community members. Several volunteers speak Spanish.

Each winter, VITA provides free, IRS-certified tax preparation services to eligible individuals and families. Trained volunteers help ensure taxpayers receive the refunds and credits they qualify for, including:

  • Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
  • Child Tax Credit (CTC)
  • American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC)
  • Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC)
  • Washington Working Families Tax Credit (WFTC)

Walk-ins are welcome; however, taxpayers are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance

VITA at WWU will operate from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. on the following dates, weather permitting.

  • February: 11, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25
  • March: 2, 3, 4, 10, 11
  • April: 1, 6, 7, 8

Walk-ins are welcome and will be served as capacity allows. The best time to arrive is around 5 p.m. Note that walk-ins may experience longer wait times than scheduled appointments before receiving assistance.

You can find our operating dates, hours, locations, and parking information on the VITA website.
