Meagan Bryson has been appointed as director of the new Academic Advising & Student Achievement Center at Western Washington University. As previously announced in July, the new Center will bring together the strengths and best work of the former Academic Advising Center and Student Outreach Services. Bryson assumed her new role on Sept. 1.

“Meagan’s appointment in this position is an opportunity to continue to build on our collective work to serve and retain students. Her highly collaborative style is a natural strength she brings to this role – a strength which is critical as we work with partners throughout the university to help our students meet their academic and life objectives,” said Sara Wilson, executive director of Western's Student Success Initiatives unit.

The Academic Advising & Student Achievement Center’s mission is to engage, support, and empower students to accomplish their goals and achieve success at WWU and beyond. The Center offers academic advising and planning services, learning assistance programs for academic and personal support, and conducts outreach to support students with unique needs and identities.

“I am honored to take on this new role as we continue to keep student success a priority at Western. I am excited to expand collaborations, learning and utilize skillsets of the Academic Advising & Student Achievement Center team and look forward to expanding partnerships across campus as we all support the academic endeavors and goals of our students,” said Bryson.

Bryson has a bachelor’s degree in Human Services and a master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education from Western Washington University. She has worked at Western for the past 8 years, as the assistant director of the Academic Advising Center.

Before coming to Western, Bryson spent 11 years at Bellingham Technical College in a variety of student service roles, with the second half of her time there as the director of career development, which included advising.
