Looking for writing instruction support?

The Writing Instruction Support (WIS) program provides direct assistance to faculty who are teaching writing courses or who incorporate writing into their courses. The WIS program offers:

  • Integrated Research & Writing Workshops for your classes on three topics: Getting Started, Finding and Using Sources, and Revising and Editing. These workshops can be scheduled as single sessions or as a sequence, and are facilitated by research and writing staff.
  • WIS Director Carmen Werder is available for personalized consultations on various topics including designing writing course syllabi, assignments, response methods, evaluation schemes, and WP Course requirements.
  • Resources on curriculum building and best practices on various writing instruction topics, as well as sample assignments, rubrics, activities, and Writing Proficiency course requirements. See the WIS website.
  • The Corner, located in the Learning Commons near the Info Desk, is an inviting spot that can be reserved by faculty and graduate TAs for hosting office hours. The space includes a collection of books and media resources on teaching & learning and writing instruction, access to reserve-able keyed lockers for storing your belongings, and hot water and tea to sustain you.

To learn more about these great resources or to schedule a workshop, consultation, or office hours at The Corner, email WritingInstructionSupport@wwu.edu.
