Living on campus and planning to leave your bike over break? Bring your ride inside to keep it safe!
Bike theft over academic breaks is a huge issue at college campuses around the country.
Last year alone, almost 20 bikes were stolen from campus bike racks over the winter holiday. To avoid this, consider storing your bike inside your room while you’re away. This is especially applicable to residence halls with outdoor-only storage facilities like Nash, Eden’s North, Fairhaven, and the Ridge. Yet, even if your bike is stored at an indoor facility like those found at Mathes, Alma Clark Glass, Edens, and Higginson, bringing bikes inside your room is the only way to guarantee they remain safe while you’re away.
Reducing bike theft from Western’s campus requires combined efforts from all students, faculty, and university staff. Help keep bikes safe this winter break by telling others about the importance of proper bike storage and management.
For more information regarding anti-theft measures at Western, visit the Transportation Services website, stop in at the Transportation Services office at OM120, or contact the Active Transportation Coordinator at atc@wwu.edu.
