Latin American Studies Program will host its first LAS Forum on Friday, March 6
Western's Latin American Studies Program will host its first Latin American Studies Forum on Friday, March 6 on campus, keynoted by the University of California at San Diego's Gloria Elizabeth Chacón, who will present "Transindigenitude: Poetic Convergences in the Americas" from 4-5 p.m. in Miller Hall 138.
Chacón is the author of Indigenous Cosmolectics: Kab’awil and the Making of Maya and Zapotec Literatures (University of North Carolina Press, 2018) and co-editor of Indigenous Interfaces: Spaces, Technology, and Social Networks in Mexico and Central America (University of Arizona Press, 2019), as well as of a special issue of Diálogo on “The Five Cardinal Points in Contemporary Indigenous Literature” (Spring 2016). Her scholarly articles have appeared Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Germany, and Spain. She is currently working on Teaching Central American Literature in a Global Context, a co-edited anthology for MLA’s Teaching Option Series. Chacón is also working on her second book, tentatively titled “Metamestizaje, Indigeneity, and Diasporas.”
