It’s Time to Get Into the Commencement Spirit!

December 2022 Commencement Ceremonies will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, with three ceremonies scheduled by college at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.  December 2022 commencement is available to any student who graduated in Summer 2022 or who is planning to graduate in Fall 2022. 

Faculty Invitations:   

The Faculty invitation to participate in commencement was shared via email to the Council of Deans last week.  For faculty who need regalia, quick action is necessary.  Please complete the participation form by Sunday, Nov. 6 (deadline just extended), and place the order for your regalia through our vendor, or let the Commencement Team know if you would like assistance in placing the order.  If a faculty member already has their regalia to dress for the occasion, the participation form is due by Friday, Dec. 2. 

Student Invitations: 

Summer 2022 graduates and Fall 2022 pending graduates have been sent invitations for Commencement Reservations via their WWU email.  Invitations have been released on a rolling basis since Oct. 14.  Students are reminded of two deadlines: 

  • Friday, Nov. 4 – Final Deadline for Fall 2022 Degree Applications. A degree application is the first step for Commencement Eligibility. 

  • Thursday, Nov. 10 – Deadline to submit Commencement Reservations. This form will only be active for those who have been assigned the Commencement Reservation form.  Submitting this form helps the Commencement Team know to prepare a name card for a graduate (required to walk across the stage) and is the mechanism to share phonetic name pronunciation and a graduation slide (photo and Message of Thanks). 

  • Graduates from Pandemic (March 2020 – June 2021) – Invitations are coming soon for those who would like to return for an in-person ceremony. 

Commencement Helper Invitations: 

WWU Staff, Nearby Alums, and Western Friends: a.k.a., the Community of Individuals wishing to lend a helping hand – we will need all kinds of happy, helpful Westerners to welcome students’ family and friends to campus for commencement.  A form to indicate interest and availability will be coming soon!  In the meantime, please pencil us into your calendars for Saturday, Dec. 10.  We’ll be looking for helpers in a variety of locations and duties for shifts (or the whole day if you’re so inclined) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Keep your eyes on your WWU email for an invitation and be on the lookout for a corresponding announcement in a future edition of Western Today.
