WWU trustees approve budget, 16 percent tuition increase next year

Western Washington University fared better than expected in the state budget, cutting only about 2 percent of operating expenditures, but that's largely due to the fact that students will pay for large tuition increases the next two years.

The board of trustees unanimously adopted the $127.9 million operating budget for 2011-12 at their meeting Friday, June 10.

Included in the budget is about $40.3 million in revenue from the state, which accounts for about 32 percent of the university's operating budget. Almost all the remaining revenue will come from tuition.
