WWU Boomerang Club, led by professor, places sixth at world championships

Western Washington University student Gavin Bohling saw his professor, Ed Love, carrying boomerangs to class one day during the spring quarter of 2023. Bohling, who graduated in 2024, pressed Love to teach him and his classmates how to throw the curved aerodynamic objects.

In the fall of 2024, the sport grew on campus and the WWU Boomerang Club was launched. Two years later, the club has gained a solid reputation on the world stage.

“It is amazing we created a new nursery for the new generation of throwers,” Love said. “The sport has aged and we are building a new template here to keep these things going.”

Love, Bohling, Western student Forrest Morse and alumnus Brian Wissner competed in the 2026 World Boomerang Championships from July 26 to Aug. 5 at Lanud Sulaeman in Bandung, Indonesia.
