Western softball grand slams through Northwest Nazarene in first round of GNAC tournament

Western Washington University’s Maleah Andrews added to her postseason resumé once again after hitting a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Vikings an 11-2 mercy-rule victory over Northwest Nazarene in the opening round of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball tournament in Ellensburg on Thursday, May 7.

“That was the best complete game we played all year and it was nice for it to happen at the right time,” Western coach Sheryl Gilmore said in the GNAC postgame conference. “We have a lot of veterans on the team who know how to make this thing peak at the right time. I am very proud.”
