Grant awarded to WWU professor researching fuel from light energy

A Western Washington University professor has received a grant for renewable energy research.

Western announced Wednesday that the Research Corporation for Science Advancement named Tim Kowalczyk a 2018 Cottrell scholar.

The award comes with a stipend allowing him to continue research in developing solar thermal fuels.

The agency awards twenty-four Cottrell grants each year and this is the third year in a row a Western chemistry professor has won.

Kowalczyk’s research involves a renewable fuel that harnesses light energy and does not release harmful emissions.
