Humans vs. Zombies game on through Oct. 23

WWU Humans vs. Zombies, one of the largest clubs on Western Washington University's campus, started its days-long fall game the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 16, on campus.

The free-to-play, eight-day game of tag on campus involves two teams: humans and zombies. Zombies try to tag humans while humans defend themselves with Nerf blasters and socks.

Western’s game began at 7 a.m. Oct. 16 and will end at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23. Fall's event is the largest game put on by the club; between 400 and 600 players typically participate. Gameplay is restricted to outside locations on campus between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Players will be designated by orange armbands (humans) and orange headbands (zombies). Moderators of the game are designated by green armbands; their tasks are to respond to rules violations, reprimand players and answer questions from students, faculty and curious spectators.

All players were required to attend a registration meeting for rules presentation and to receive their player bands and ID cards.

The club operates in close collaboration with campus administration and University Police. This collaboration establishes rules, restrictions and the allowed Nerf blasters used in-game.
