Heavy rains delay East College Way roadwork
The Miller Hall heating repair team successfully reconnected Miller to the new permanent steam line in December. However, remaining work under East College Way has been delayed due to heavy rains and the need for additional underground rerouting of pipes. WWU's Facilities Development and Operations (FDO) now expects that the road will reopen to traffic at the end of March after spring break.
Teams are working hard to establish ADA access to some parking areas off East College Way, and campus notifications will be sent when access is restored.
Also, please be aware that Cascade Natural Gas has found some corrosion on the natural gas pipelines in this area. They are currently doing an engineering review to determine whether any pipeline will need to be replaced. If repairs are needed, they will schedule the work as soon as possible. This will likely require another, much shorter closure of East College Way, and we will let you know the schedule as soon as we have it.
We apologize for the continuing disruption, but the nature and scope of the project have made it difficult to predict delays. Facilities Development and Operations will continue to provide updates as they become available.
