Heading out for break? Follow this quick checklist

During the hectic close to the quarter, please take a moment to check that windows are closed, lights are shut off, and thermostats remain at their preset levels in offices, classrooms, and residence halls before you leave for your well-deserved break. Open windows and heat that has been shut off can cause major damage in form of broken water pipes and flooding and also pose security and sustainability challenges.

Lights left on and heat going out open windows wastes energy and generates unnecessary carbon emissions, undercutting our sustainability and climate goals. Leaving windows open at night also invites intrusion and leaves our people and spaces vulnerable to potential mischief and damage.

Please be considerate of fellow community members and help ensure that all spaces on campus are secure, efficiently heated, and comfortable, and have a wonderful winter break.
