Film suggestions for international series needed by June 10

The Reel World Film series at Western Washington University is looking for titles for its 2016-2017 lineup.

Films chosen as part of the series have international content, focus on a global issue or view the U.S. from a perspective outside of the country. They may be documentaries, feature films, biographies, concerts or interviews. The goal of the series is to promote dialogue rather than to entertain.

How it works: Faculty suggest film titles that will be a useful resource for a course they are teaching, then the Institute for Global Engagement works with the Western Libraries to purchase the rights to the films. IGE publicizes and screens the films while the faculty hosts lead viewers/students in discussions of the films. The films are shown on a monthly basis, generally at 5:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month in Viking Union Room 552. They are free and open to the public.

Preference is given to films that have not previously been screened, to faculty whose suggested films have not yet been selected and to films for which the screening rights are not exorbitant. Faculty who are teaching a course in which an internationally-focused film may be relevant should send an email to Vicki Hamblin with a film title, a course title and the academic quarter in which the course will be taught.
