Ethnic Student Center welcomes new director at party May 17

A reception to welcome Western Washington University alumnus Nathan Panelo as the new coordinator for Western's Ethnic Student Center will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 17, in the ESC in Viking Union Room 420. Panelo officially begins his duties on May 14.

Panelo graduated from Western with a bachelor's degree in human services in 2007 and served on the AS Board of Directors as vice president of activities. In 2010, he graduated from the University of Vermont with a master's degree in higher education and student affairs.

Nathan has worked as a resident director at Seattle University since July 2010.

The ESC is a safe and supportive environment for historically underrepresented groups and allies while providing cultural and educational programs. The student-run organization provides resources and a safe environment where students can work on event programming, do homework or just hang out. The ESC also offers study space, computer access and resource information. It is open to all students.
