Employees: State of the University address set for Sept. 28

Western will host its annual “State of the University Address” (SOTU) on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 9 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center Concert Hallwhen President Sabah Randhawa will share reflections on the past year and goals and priorities for the 2022/23 academic year. The SOTU will be preceded by an informal Breakfast Reception in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room between 7:45 – 8:45 a.m. (Reminder that no food is allowed in the Performing Arts Center.)

The SOTU replaces what was previously called “Faculty & Staff Opening Convocation.” All faculty and staff awards are now presented at the Celebration of Excellence event in the spring. “New Student Convocation” will continue to be the student-focused event, and is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 20, the day before fall quarter classes begin.

Please plan to join the SOTU event to visit with colleagues and affirm the shared values and commitments that bring us together to advance Western’s mission.

  • If you would like to attend the IN-PERSON Breakfast Reception in the Viking Union MPR and/or the SOTU Address in the PAC Concert Hall, please use the RSVP form to let us know which events you will be attending IN-PERSON so that we can plan for adequate food and seating. (You may still want to accept this meeting request just to add the SOTU to your calendar.) Parking enforcement will be suspended between 7:30-10:00 a.m. for the breakfast and ceremony.
  • If you will be watching the SOTU REMOTELY, the livecast will be streamed on the State of the University webpage (live or by replay). No need to RSVP, but please accept this meeting request to add it to your calendar.

Reminder to wear your Western gear since this falls on a “Western Wednesday!”

If you have any accommodations requests, please send them to michele.anderson@wwu.edu. ASL translator and captioning will be provided.
