Critical Junctures Institute to hold seminar on diabetes self-management

The Critical Junctures Institute at Western Washington University is putting on a research seminar set for 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 6.

The seminar, "Diabetes Connection: Enhancing Diabetes Self-Management Through Peer Partnering," will be given by Alan Friedlob, a research affiliate with the Critical Junctures Institute, and Cindy Brinn, from the diabetes and nutrition clinic at PeaceHealth/St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham.

The seminar, which will take place at the Critical Junctures Institute at 625 Cornwall Ave. in Bellingham, will focus on describing the planning and implementation of a community-based, citizen-directed diabetes self-management program in Whatcom County that utilizes non-health professional "peer partners." The discussion will describe the challenges of organizing and sustaining such a program.

The Critical Junctures Institute, founded in 2007, is a collaborative venture between Western Washington
University and PeaceHealth/St. Joseph Hospital and operates as a program of Western Washington University. The
CJI mission is to serve as an innovation, research and learning partner for improving health and advancing health care within Whatcom County and beyond.
