Communication Studies' Tara Perry publishes presentations, honors and papers for 2017-18

Conference Presentation: November 16-19, 2017 -  I delivered two presentations at the National Communication Association (NCA), in Dallas Texas, I delivered the first presentation about how my interest in homelessness came about and the many ways that my students are engaged in service-learning projects related to our community experiencing homelessness. I discussed each project that I created from 2015 to current. My presentation was titled "Homelessness the Invisible Made Visible."

Conference Presentation: (same conference and date as above) NCA Presentation #2: Scholar to Scholar presentation. Due to my work in social justice, among other social justice scholars, I was asked by the Activism and Social Justice Division to present and share how I integrate homelessness through social justice in the classroom. This was the first time that the division had an informational scholar session whereby people could inquire about the work that we do. My presentation was about the movement that I created titled  #endhomelessnesswwu" I spoke about "Integrating homelessness in the classroom."

Advisory Board: Due to my work in instructional technology and social justice, I was invited to join the Center for Instructional Innovation & Assessment Advisory Board (2017 to current). I was selected in the spring of 2017 and began work this academic year. This year I had the opportunity to review and evaluate Summer faculty grants for the CIIA whereby faculty spend the summer learning instructional technology. In addition, as an advisory board member, I selected faculty for this year's Innovative Teaching Showcase titled Engaging Social justice. Both of these roles relate directly with my teaching, service, and scholarship.

Participant: For the first time this year, I attended the Conference on Ending Homelessness, May 22-23, 2018 in Yakima, Washington. This was a professional development opportunity for me. Advocates and service providers across Washington State came together to discuss pressing issues that face people experience homelessness. I attended this conference to learn more about the causes of homelessness and what we can do to change the narrative. 

Awarded: Certificate of Completion, Blended/Online Course Revision and Redesign, awarded by Academic Technology & User Services, Center for Instructional Innovation & Assessment, I was part of a two-week workshop and received a $200.00 stipend. I had the opportunity to work on my blended online course titled Organizational Communication 228. 

Awarded: Certificate of Completion, Blended/Online Course Development and Design, awarded by Academic Technology & User Services, Center for Instructional Innovation & Assessment, I was part of a five-week workshop and received a $500.00 stipend. I had the opportunity to work on my blended online course titled Organizational Communication 228. 

Awarded: In May 2018, I was selected to be a participant at the national Social Justice Training Institute and I was awarded $100 scholarship assist with expenses. I will be doing self work on anti-racism, social justice, and equity. This program will go from June 11-June 15.
