CBE honors outstanding students at leadership luncheon

Seven Western Washington University students were chosen to participate in its College of Business and Economics Leadership Lunch held at the corporate headquarters of Saturna Capital in Bellingham on May 16.

Students met with business leaders to discuss the future of business in general and some of the key aspects of Saturna’s business. The lunch provided an opportunity for the business professionals to contribute to the educational mission of the College of Business and Economics through interactions with students and faculty.

The quarterly CBE Leadership Lunch Program recognizes students who have distinguished themselves through scholarship and leadership while in the College of Business and Economics. Students are nominated by faculty in their respective departments.

Each department selected an outstanding student for spring quarter: Angela Hansen, Accounting (Federal Way); Haley Herrin, Management and Information Systems (Seattle); Graham Marmion, Economics and Minors in Energy Policy and Political Science (Edmonds); Sydney Ratzlaff, Marketing; (Lynden) Jeffrey Thunell, Financial Economics (Lynnwood); Jessica Amico, Management Information Systems; and Lauren Donohue, MBA (Bellevue).

The students were joined at the lunch by some of Saturna’s business executives: Nick Kaiser, chairman and director, Equity Portfolio manager; Meredith Ross, director and treasurer; Phelps McIlvaine, director and vice president; Scott Klimo, director of Research; Tyler Howard, investment analyst; Kalen Hanna, manager of 401(k) Client Services; and Paul Meeks, senior analyst, director of Institutional Investing, and Sextant Growth Fund Portfolio manager. Kristi Tyran and Sandra Mottner from Western’s College of Business and Economics joined the students and executives at the lunch; Tyran organized the event.

The luncheon program is sponsored by the Center for Innovation in Education at the CBE. The Center for Innovation in Education provides a variety of programs designed to connect business and industry leaders with faculty and students to promote business and economics education.
