Cartographer Anton Thomas to Discuss Mapmaking Oct. 26 at Western

Anton Thomas, Australian cartographer and artist, will speak about his work mapping North America, as part of the WWU Huxley College of the Environment Speaker Series at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26 in Academic West 204 on the Western Washington University campus.

The presentation is free and open to the public.

In his Speaker Series talk titled “Drawing a Continent by Hand” Thomas will discuss his work inspired by several years he spent travelling the U.S. and Canada. The map: The North American Continent, was featured on National Geographic's Best Maps of 2016 and is on the verge of completion.

The presentation will include a question-and-answer period. Anyone interested in the topic is encouraged to attend and participate.

The Huxley College Speaker Series, sponsored by Western’s Huxley College of the Environment, is intended to bring together environmentally-minded members of the WWU and Bellingham communities. Speakers address topics of contemporary environmental concern in the region and the world.
