Can you be seen in the dark? Sustainable Transportation to hand out free lights, reflectors

As the days grow shorter, it is more important than ever that cyclists and those on foot are properly lit in the darkness and that motorists are aware.

WWU Sustainable Transportation, along with John Jordy of The Stress Clinic, University Police and the City of Bellingham, encourage the community to “See and Be Seen” this fall. They're working to equip motorists, cyclists and pedestrians with the tools they need to be safe on the roads this fall.

Stop by the See and Be Seen information table in front of the Viking Union on Nov. 4 or the Wade King Student Recreation Center on Nov. 5 for a free bike light, tips to be seen in the dark, reflective materials and coupons for bike lights at Fanatik Bike.

Bike lights also will be handed out at the corner of E. Maple and Indian Street on the morning of Nov. 4 and at 21st Street and Bill McDonald Parkway on the morning of Nov. 5.

Motorists can increase their visibility by picking up a free ice scraper on Nov. 4 in parking lot 7G and Nov. 5 in parking lot C/12A from 4pm to 6pm.

University Police and Bellingham Police will also be equipped with bike lights to hand out to cyclists and pedestrians that are unlit during their increased patrols Nov. 3 to Nov. 7.

Those interested in volunteering at these information tables may contact Sustainable Transportation 360-650-7245 or transportation@wwu.edu.
