Campus community invited to Oct. 6 insights presentation on 2022-23 Office of Equity Listening Sessions

On Friday, October 6 at 10:30 am in Academic West (AW), Room 204, the WWU Office of Equity invites all students, staff and faculty to a presentation on the findings and insights from the 2022-2023 listening sessions, which had been conducted to more than 35 groups of students, faculty and staff. Last year's listening sessions focused on three questions: Is your identity welcomed at Western? Do you feel heard by Western? and How could Western better support your identity and role?

Some key takeaways from this extensive work which will be further presented on Friday include:

  • An overwhelming desire for community and belonging.
  • A desire to be seen, heard, respected, and treated fairly.
  • A need to establish greater accountability for challenging behaviors.
  • Better alignment and collaboration of our ADEI work.

WWU Chief Diversity Officer and Executive Director of the Office of Equity, Jacqueline Hughes, will share more on the learnings from last year's listening sessions related to campus culture, climate, and ADEI — and how the Office of Equity will use that information in its work going forward.

The event will be in person and live streamed. Links to the livestream will be sent to WWU email addresses.
