By students, for students: Five weekend outings or quick road trips you won't forget
We asked five WWU students what weekend road trip (or short drive) they’d recommend a fellow student to take. Here’s what they had to say:
Winthrop/The North Cascades Highway
“The drive over Highway 20 is gorgeous! Make sure to stop at the North Cascades Visitor Center and the Mazama store. I've been to 13 national parks all over the west side of the USA, and I think North Cascades has some of the best views,” said biology major Kurt Winn of Arlington.
Lummi Island
"I think taking the tiny ferry, which you can get to by WTA bus, onto Lummi Island is underrated and there’s a great beach, awesome hiking, a cute local farm and more there," said Victor, Idaho resident and ecological agriculture student Sam Schmidt.
Port Townsend
Port Townsend, famous for its seaside charm, Victorian homes, and wooden boat center, is the go-to weekend road trip for Aaron Shultz of Chicago, Illinois.
Whatcom Falls Park, Clayton Beach, and Lakewood
“Summertime is best for the last two, and anytime that you won’t be mud-slid or blown away is good for Whatcom Falls Park.” - Caro Molamphy, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Portland, Oregon
Teddy Bear Cove
“Teddy Bear Cove is pretty close by — with a car — and super pretty!” - Flynn Williams, Language Literacy and Culture Studies, Portland, Oregon
