Beyond Borders art exhibit on display through June 3

The Viking Union Gallery, a student-curated exhibition space in Viking Union 507, is playing host to the Beyond Borders art exhibit through June 3.

The exhibition is designed to showcase outstanding artwork created by Fine Art students in the Western United States and Canada in order to stimulate dialogue among new artists, their peers and the established art community. The title exemplifies the VU Gallery's dedication to encourage communication across community, national, international and social borders. The title also serves to remind viewers and participants that art has the power to transcend all boundaries.

A closing reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. June 2.

All currently enrolled undergraduate students in California, Idaho, Oregon, Alaska, Washington, and British Columbia are eligible.

Artwork was chosen by a volunteer jury, that is selected based on their knowledge and experience in the field of art. The jurors also decide on Beyond Borders first, second, and third place winners which receive cash prizes. Honorable mentions are also included when applicable.

The gallery's primary focus is to contribute to the artistic culture of Western through exhibiting the works of students and of regional and community artists, producing art relevant and of interest to students.
