Academy for Lifelong Learning on the Peninsulas Launches its 2017 Educational Programming with a Class about Personal Resilience
The Academy for Lifelong Learning on the Peninsulas (A.L.L.) will host its first in a series of public educational programming events this month.
The first of five courses to be offered this winter, “Resilience in Times of Change and Adversity,” begins on Tueasday, Jan. 31 from 1-2 p.m. with successive class dates on Feb. 7, 14 and 21, at Olympic College-Poulsbo Room 107. The four-session course costs $39 and is taught by Jurgen Raschmann, a retired USAF psychologist who has remained active in the field of mental health for more than 35 years.
Course development is ongoing, with engaging, introspective looks into the arts, marine science, social justice, creative problem solving, emotional intelligence and biomimicry among them, and planned to occur throughout the year
“It is Western Washington University’s mission to serve not only degree-seeking students on the Peninsulas,” said Candice Merrill, director of operations WWU Peninsula programs, “but also people in the community at large who are interested in learning just for the joy of it. “Our new A.L.L. program will provide adults with an opportunity to participate in a variety of academic and cultural courses.”
A.L.L. on the Peninsulas aims to offer short, college-level courses and educational events – without homework, tests or grades. Instructors are recruited from a diverse pool of faculty, faculty emeritus, and experts in various fields and professions.
Programs include traditional liberal arts and sciences topics with an emphasis on interdisciplinary exploration, utilizing formats that encourage discussion and exchange of knowledge.
