BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University’s College of Fine and Performing Arts will host its first-ever Western Arts Preparatory Academy, featuring dance, music and theatre classes for youth ages 2 to 12.
Creative Dance, Elementary Ballet and Violin classes begin this fall in the community and on the WWU campus, and new classes will be offered through the school year.
Participants will learn about the arts through fun, age appropriate activities that build strength, awareness and social skills. Western Arts Preparatory Academy strives to enrich the education of youth while developing valuable, life-enriching skills.
- Creative Dance classes explore dance through the concepts of time, space, shape, directions and pathway. A variety of stories, imagery, age-appropriate movement games, and music styles are used to create a dynamic class that builds strong bodies, confidence and self-awareness.
- Elementary Ballet classes focus on providing young dancers ages 6-12 with a strong foundation in ballet technique, etiquette and history without stifling a child's imagination. Ballet requires a certain level of focus, coordination and finesse.
- Violin instruction is based on the Suzuki method. The journey of learning to play the violin is a long, but rewarding process, which goes beyond learning to play an instrument. Your child will learn hand-eye coordination, organizational skills, problem solving, and communication skills.
