Caroline Lathan-Stiefel is an artist whose work includes large-scale installations – mainly consisting of textiles – which provide an immersive experience for the viewer.
Integral to her work is the idea of sprawl. Lathan-Stiefel uses a labor-intensive process of sewing or pinning patches of fabric and plastic to structures made of pipe cleaners and wire; the use of commonplace craft materials and discarded household goods gives her work a provisional quality. An important aspect of all of her work is that she views it as being in a state of flux.
