The Bellingham Herald

  • Environmental testing under way at GP site
Crews are drilling test wells and removing soil from the former Georgia-Pacific West Inc. property through Oct. 5 to determine the extent of environmental cleanup required on the waterfront site.
The $500,000 sampling project is on 64 acres owned primarily by the Port of Bellingham, which bought them in 2005 as part of redevelopment plans for the waterfront. The state of Washington owns other parts of the site.

  • Men's soccer: Vikes continue early season slide
The Western Washington University men's soccer team dropped its second straight game on Saturday, Feb. 19, losing 3-2 to Simon Fraser in a non-conference game at Orca Field.
The Vikings (3-5) got goals from Gibson Bardsley and Matt Fishbauger, but still lost for the fourth time in their past five games.

The Seattle Times
