The grant is the fourth from State Farm’s Good Neighbor Citizenship philanthropy program to support a total of 11 Promise Scholarships from State Farm since 2006.
State educational agencies, the governor, and school districts have all designated the recruitment of minority teachers as a top priority for teacher education programs, in keeping with the greater need created by increasing numbers of minority students.
“State Farm’s continuing support for the Promise Scholarship program has been a major factor in Woodring’s ability to recruit and retain students in our teacher preparation programs who show exceptional promise for becoming highly-qualified teachers,” said
Woodring’s Promise Scholarship program supports students entering Woodring and may be renewed for one year in the teacher preparation program. To date more than $80,000 from various private funding sources, in collaboration with the Western Foundation, has been awarded to 34 students.
