BELLINGHAM - Western Washington University's College of Business and Economics (CBE) will host guest speaker Mark Swiackey at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 10 in Parks Hall 146, as part of its Strategic Management Executive Speaker Series.

The presentation is free and open to the public. There will also be an opportunity for CBE students to meet with Swiackey for an informal conversation hour at 11 a.m. in Parks Hall 441.

The series brings to campus senior business leaders to interact with students and share their perspectives on strategic management and leadership.  These speakers contribute directly to the capstone Strategic Management course as a guest lecturer.  In addition to speaking to the class, these executives interact with selected students in an informal setting to discuss issues of mutual interest in business and economics.

Swiackey, vice president of operations for Samson Rope Technologies and former vice president of manufacturing at Samson, is responsible for manufacturing, supply chain, human resources and customer service. Samson is the world's leading high performance rope manufacturer and has manufacturing plants in Ferndale and Louisiana.  The company sells the largest range of high performance ropes worldwide.

Prior to working at Samson, Swiackey worked at Starbucks Coffee Co. in a number of positions within accounting, finance and the international supply chain. He has also worked at US Marine (Bayliner) as a senior financial analyst and at Samson as cost accounting manager from 1994 to 1998.

Swiackey holds a bachelor's degree in Accounting from Central Washington University.
