BELLINGHAM - Western Washington University's Theatre Arts Department will present the musical "Schoolhouse Rock, Live!" July 23- Aug. 2 in the Old Main Theater as part of their Summer Theatre 2009 season.

Directed by WWU's Deb Currier, "Schoolhouse" is based off of the 1970s Emmy Award-winning cartoon series.  The story follows a school teacher's imagination as he learns how to win over his students and teach them about history, math, grammar, science and politics.  The musical production is known for its catchy songs such as "Conjunction Junction" and "Just a Bill," which are appropriate and fun for all ages.

This year members of the Secondary Summer Youth Theatre Institute (SYTI) program will have the opportunity to perform alongside their SYTI leaders in the musical production.  "Schoolhouse Rock, Live!" is the first Summer Theatre production to incorporate participants of SYTI in the cast along with WWU students in a performing mentorship program.

"Schoolhouse Rock, Live!" will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, July 23-25 and Wednesday through Saturday, July 29-Aug. 1, as well as at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 26 and Aug. 2, in the Old Main Theater.

Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for faculty, staff, and seniors, and $8 for students. Tickets can be purchased in advance through the WWU Box Office, which is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and one hour prior to the show.  For individual tickets or disability accommodations, contact the WWU Box Office, (360) 650-6146 or visit http://www.tickets.wwu.edu/.
