BELLINGHAM - Western Washington University's Theatre Arts Department will present "Commedia in the Park" July 29- Aug. 8 at various parks throughout Whatcom County as part of the Summer Theatre 2009 season.
Created by the Dell' Arte Ensemble and directed by Rich Brown, "Commedia in the Park" will celebrate the ancient comic tradition of improvisational comedy, known as commedia dell-arte, and it's wonderful stock characters of the old man, the young lovers, the saucy maid and Harlequin. The performance showcases live music, theatrical costumes, full masks and very physical acting.
"Commedia in the Park" is a traveling show and will be staged at the following locations:
- 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, at Fairhaven on the Green
- 6 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Cornwall Park
- 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 1, at Cornwall Park
- 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Fairhaven on the Green
- 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Elizabeth Park
- 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Elizabeth Park
Tickets are $5 for all ages and are available on-site only.
