BELLINGHAM – Gov. Christine Gregoire has appointed advertising agency executive Betti Fujikado to Western Washington University’s Board of Trustees.

“We welcome Betti Fujikado to the Board of Trustees. Her wealth of knowledge and proven abilities as a business leader will be a substantial asset for Western,” said WWU President Bruce Shepard.
Fujikado’s term began May 20 and ends Sept. 30, 2012. She is filling the unexpired term of former WWU Trustee Ron Allen.
“I’m honored to serve Western Washington University alongside such a distinguished board. It’s a privilege to support its premier faculty, outstanding staff and talented students,” said Trustee Betti Fujikado.
Jim Copacino and Betti Fujikado are co-founders of Copacino+Fujikado – an award-winning Seattle advertising agency. The agency has earned recognition for its work for the Seattle Mariners, REI, Safeco Insurance, Premera Blue Cross, United Way of King County, Seattle Children’s and numerous other accounts.
Fujikado began her career in 1977 as a CPA at Price Waterhouse and has held a number of positions, from CFO to CEO, in her 31-year career. She’s worked in mergers and acquisitions, growth companies, and turnarounds. The industries have varied from retail to telecommunications to boatbuilding. She is a well-respected consultant and strategist who has worked with such premier companies as Microsoft, Albertsons, and REI.
She received a bachelor’s in Business Administration in 1977 from the University of Washington. She’s served on the Pike Place Market Board and has been very active with the Intiman Theatre and DENSHO, among other Seattle area nonprofits.
