BELLINGHAM - As a part of Western Washington University's Huxley College of the Environment Environmental Studies Colloquium, Huxley senior Andrea Thomas will discuss the focus of her senior thesis work in a presentation titled "Environmental Citizenship and Carbon Intensity: Evaluating the Carbon Masters Educational Program."
The presentation is free and open to the public, and will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, May 29, in Communications Facility room 125.
Thomas will present her honors project evaluating the climate change education group known as Carbon Masters. This program addresses the lack of educational programs available to the public that offer valid, proactive, constructive and informative tools to empower ordinary citizens to deal with the complex issue of climate change. This study employs social science research methods to evaluate the Carbon Masters program to determine its effectiveness, efficacy and community-building. Thomas will also assess the program's capacity to inspire change within the community members of Bellingham and Whatcom County.
