WWU Dance to Offer 'Dance Academy for Youth' Summer Program Aug. 3-21

BELLINGHAM - Western Washington University's Dance Program will present its inaugural "Dance Academy for Youth" Aug. 3-21 on Western's campus.

Designed to explore dance techniques that will have participants soaring to new heights, the Dance Academy for Youth (DAY) is for students aged 12-18 who have basic technical dance training that want to enhance their skills and expand their horizons into various genres. DAY offers a variety of eclectic and exciting classes including modern, jazz, mod-hop, ballet, choreography, drumming/musicality, and acting for dancers.  All classes will be taught by WWU performing arts faculty members and graduates.

The three-week program will culminate with an evening showcase at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, in the Old Main Theatre.  The performance is free and open to the public.   

Registration for DAY is $350 which includes all instructional materials and specialized performance venues.  Limited scholarships are available for DAY; for more information please call Sherena Geariety at (360) 650-7293.  The priority registration deadline for DAY is June 15.
