BELLINGHAM - As a part of the Huxley College Speaker Series at Western Washington University, filmmaker and conservationist Chris Morgan will discuss his upcoming feature-length documentary in a presentation titled "Beartrek: A Global Campaign and Feature Film about a Motorcycle Quest to Seek the World's Rarest Bears."
The presentation is free and open to the public, and will be taking place at 3 p.m. Friday, May 8, in Communications Facility room 125.
Morgan will discuss his local bear conservation efforts and the making of his upcoming documentary "Beartrek." In "Beartrek," Morgan travels around locations across the globe by motorcycle to document the world's rarest bear species and the people working to save them from extinction. The film is not yet finished, but Morgan's journey has already taken him to Alaska, Peru, Borneo and Mongolia.
Morgan owns a Bellingham-based wildlife research and education business, frequently lectures at Huxley College, directs the North Cascades Grizzly Bear Outreach Program and co-founded Wildlife Media. Wildlife Media is a nonprofit established in September 2007 to create wildlife documentaries and campaigns designed to entertain and raise awareness and funds for wildlife conservation; "Beartrek" is Morgan's first feature film.
The Huxley Speaker Series was created to bring the Environmental Studies community together with the Western and Bellingham communities; speakers address topics of contemporary environmental concern in the region and the world.
