WWU Hosts Talk on 'The Future of the Book' April 23

Contact: Clyde Ford, author/events speaker, clyde@clydeford.com

BELLINGHAM – Popular local author and public speaker Clyde Ford will discuss “The Future of the Book” at 4 to 5 p.m., on Thursday, April 23, at the Wilson Library Skybridge at Western Washington University.

Ford will read from his book, speak about the future of the publishing industry, new ways of storytelling and marketing through new media, and promoting literacy. He will also demonstrate some of the innovative software he’s developed that combines reading a book with viewing locations from a book in Google Earth. The presentation is free and anyone interested in these topics is welcome.

As one of the forerunners in the use of new media in marketing books, Ford will talk about the role of digital technology in book marketing, expanding the boundaries of books, and promoting literacy. Ford will fly the audience to locations from his latest novel, “Precious Cargo,” using software he wrote called OnScene. Ford will also discuss the reality of the publishing business, where it is today, where it is going, and what young writers should know about the industry. A question and answer session will follow.

Clyde Ford has won several literary awards for both his fiction, and his nonfiction. He is a gifted public speaker, and has participated in interviews on shows ranging from National Public Radio to the “Oprah Winfrey Show.” He is currently heading an internship at Western Washington University concerning the use of new media in the world of publishing, promoting literacy, and marketing books.

“The Future of the Book” will appeal to, but is not limited to, anyone interested in marketing, publishing, editing, or computer technology.
