Sen. Patty Murray visits campus, discusses student research 
 
Sen. Patty Murray visited WWU yesterday to discuss federal legislation she is sponsoring regarding financial literacy education for young people. Murray discussed the work done in this area by WWU's Pam Whalley as well as the research conducted by four CBE students into the financial litracy of the WWU student body. The students, from left, are (from left) Simon Trigg, Thomas Evans, Spencer Covich, and Jordan Maughan.

WWU faculty, staff have work appearing in NW Projections

WWU's Lisa Spicer, above, is having her documentary short film "The Best Medicine" shown at the NW Projections Film Festival at the Pickford Cinema this weekend.     Men will march in high heels from Western Washington University to Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro Saturday, April 18, to show their support for ending domestic violence and sexual assaults against women.

  • Porter wins 10,000 meters at Mt. SAC Relays
    Western Washington University's Sarah Porter won her heat of the women's 10,000 meters with a NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time of 34:58.37 on Thursday at the 51st annual Mt. SAC Relays Collegiate Invitational Track and Field Meet at Hilmer Lodge Stadium at Walnut Creek, Calif.

  • Former WWU English chair wins top teacher award
    Professor Richard K. Emmerson, the chairman of the Department of Art History at The Florida State University and an internationally renowned scholar on the Middle Ages, has garnered the 2009 Excellence in Teaching Medieval Studies award from the Medieval Academy of America.
    Emmerson, who also holds a courtesy faculty position in the Department of English, is the former executive director of the Medieval Academy of America. In the three decades since earning his Ph.D. at Stanford University, he taught at Georgetown University, Harvard University, Tufts University and Western Washington University (where he chaired the Department of English) prior to joining FSU´s faculty in 2006.

  • Luck of the draw brought Dragavon to the Sounders
    As much as Ben Dragavon has tried to treat this week just like any other in his soccer playing life, the goalkeeper from Monroe admits a little bit has changed since he made his Major League Soccer debut for Seattle Sounders FC last weekend.
    "I must have had like 150 text messages at least after that game," said Dragavon, who played at Monroe High and Western Washington University. "I'm sure a lot more people around Seattle know who I am now than they did before."
