BELLINGHAM - Nationally known marketing and branding experts Al Ries and his daughter Laura Ries will be on the Western Washington University campus for a free workshop and presentation from 4-5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 27, in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room.
Author of the seminal books "Marketing Warfare" and "The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing," Al Ries has also been a regular contributor to Ad Age magazine for many years in addition to running his own marketing firms, first in New York City with partner Jack Trout and then with his daughter and their Atlanta-based firm, Ries & Ries.
Laura Ries is the author of a number of marketing-strategy books including "War in the Boardroom," co-written with her father, and is a regular guest on CNN and Fox News.
The Ries's will speak for about 45 minutes on marketing and branding before opening the floor to 45 minutes of questions from the audience. The branding workshop is made possible through the generosity of Kim Alfreds and Ron Kornfeld of NimbleSource LLC, in partnership with WWU's College of Business and Economics (CBE) and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS).
"When such talented people as Al and Laura Ries come to campus, they greatly enhance the students' experience," said Brian Burton, dean of CBE. "It is so important to students to get a chance to talk with people from the business world, and we are very grateful to the Rieses for their willingness to share their expertise and experience with our students."
Sandra Mottner, chair of Western's Marketing Department, said bringing the Rieses to campus is another part of CBE's effort to forge increased interaction between students and the business community.
"We're honored and thrilled to be able to have experts with the knowledge and expertise of the Rieses available to speak with our students," she said. "And they wouldn't have been able to come to campus without the generosity of Kim Alfreds and Ron Kornfeld of NimbleSource."
