BELLINGHAM - Western Washington University student Michael Barbero has won a competition for the best promotional piece for the upcoming Northwest Projections Film Festival, April 17-19 at the Pickford Film Center in Bellingham.
The competition was sponsored by KISM radio.
Barbero, a student in WWU's video production certificate program, crafted a video commercial for the festival that was "creative, humorous and direct" according to Carol Dooley, program director for KISM. She noted that the standard of quality and the number of entries was much higher than expected, and that Barbero's piece was chosen because it conveyed a strong message in a subtle way. The winning entry will be shown on KVOS Television and at Northwest Projections.
Northwest Projections is an annual film festival featuring the work of local filmmakers. The films of Northwest Projections are both short and feature-length, and cover a variety of genres, from documentaries to comedy to experimental.
Among the films featured in this year's festival is "Kung Fu Joe," a film by Glen Berry, program director of Western Washington University's video production certificate program. Berry is also the director of the Northwest Film School.
