BELLINGHAM - Western Washington University's College of Business and Economics will host Marjorie Hatter, Arnie Prentice and Shaun Wolfe during its Center for Excellence in Management Education Speaker Series this quarter.
These events are free and open to the public.
Hatter, the manager for the Ferndale ConocoPhillips refinery, will speak about strategic management at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 24, in Fraser 4 on the WWU campus.
Hatter began her career in Unocal's Science and Technology Division working in geothermal energy, shale oil and catalytic process development. In 1992, Hatter joined Unocal's Corporate Environmental Remediation department as manager of Environmental Technology. In 1994 she transferred to refining as the manager of technical services for the Rodeo Refinery. When Unocal was sold to the Tosco Corp., Hatter accepted a management position, and in 2007 became the manager of the Ferndale refinery.
Hatter graduated from the University of Idaho with bachelor's and master's degrees in Chemical Engineering.
Arnie Prentice, co-founder of the financial service firm Kibble and Prentice, will speak about ethics and social responsibility at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 1, in Fraser 4.
Under Prentice's guidance as CEO and chairman of Kibble and Prentice, the company became one of the largest independent financial-services firms in the Northwest. Today more than 160 associates work in offices located in Seattle and nearby Bellevue, offering personal and business insurance products, overseeing company benefit plans and managing up to $450 million in corporate and individual investments. Prentice is well known for his professional acumen and leadership skills. He serves on the boards of Flow International, Northland Telecommunications Corp. and the Starbucks Coffee Co.
Shawn Wolfe, president and CEO of TangoWire Corp., an integrated online community, will speak about Strategic Management at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 29, in Fraser 4.
Wolfe is a 20-year veteran of the software industry, and is the founder of two startup companies. He has served as president and CEO at WRQ Inc., a $140 million enterprise software company, and has extensive and direct experience in research and development, marketing, sales, executive management and international strategies and operations. Wolfe has also been involved in and led a number of acquisitions, divestitures, and equity funding activities. Wolfe currently serves on the board of several organizations, including Artsfund, MessageGate, Vigilos and the Dean's Board of Advisors at WWU's College of Business and Economics.
The Center for Excellence in Management Education Speaker Series brings senior business leaders to campus to interact with students and share their perspectives on strategic management, ethics, and leadership. In addition to giving a formal lecture and speaking to classes while visiting Western's campus, these executives interact with select undergraduates and graduate students in an informal setting to discuss issues of mutual interest in business and economics.
