BELLINGHAM - Western Washington University faculty member Nanette Davis has released a new book, "Blessed is She - Elder Care: Women's Stories of Choice, Challenge and Commitment."

Today, more than 44.5 million Americans take care of sick and dying elders - one out of every four households. Part scholarly analysis, part memoir, "Blessed is She" looks at caregiving as a journey and an opportunity for healing and personal growth, with Davis presenting strategies for joyful living and insights into becoming a different, more enlightened caregiver.

After caring for her own dying husband for four years, Davis longed to connect with others and share their similar experiences, and this research led to the writing of "Blessed is She."

"I wrote this book to bring attention to caregivers everywhere, whose valiant efforts are often not acknowledged in our society," she said. "This book can be a resource for those who face the daunting task of looking after loved ones."

Davis received her doctorate from Michigan State University and completed post-doctoral studies at Stanford University. She has more than 30 years of experience as an educator, author, advocate and researcher.
