- WWU community discussion set for Tuesday
In an effort to limit contentious feelings between Western Washington University students living off campus and their neighbors, the Campus Community Coalition is offering another "Let's Talk" forum. The forum, titled "Living Together in Bellingham: Student Parties, Enforcement Practices and Neighborly Relations," will start at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, in the Fairhaven College auditorium.

Western Washington University held University of Alaska Fairbanks scoreless for nearly 14 minutes to open the game Thursday, Feb. 26, and went on to claim a 77-32 victory in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball contest on Haggen Court at Sam Carver Gymnasium.

Q'orianka Kilcher, a then-19-year-old who played Pocahontas in the movie "The New World," will be speaking at Northwest Indian College and at Western Washington University next week. She'll appear at Northwest Indian College at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, in the Log Building, and at WWU at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, in Communications Facility room 110.

Donavan Frankenreiter and Gary Jules, who've known each other since they both surfed the waves of Southern California and shared an interest in music, perform acoustic pop rock together at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at Western Washington University's Performing Arts Center Concert Hall.

A forthcoming study by Western Washington University exercise scientist Kathleen Knutzen used elliptical machines with force plates on the pedals to determine that, even at a fast stride, the forces on the lower legs were comparable to walking, and two or three times less than running. "That's a real benefit if you're prone to repetitive stress injuries," Knutzen said.

In Washington state, the University of Washington by far raised the most, at $302,770,825, which was the 18th highest in the U.S. It was followed by Washington State University at $74,051,373 and Seattle University at $22,109,254. Other state schools' donations: Pacific Lutheran University, $18,374,610; Gonzaga University, $16,376,619; Whitman College, $12,855,819; Whitworth University, $7,619,279; Walla Walla University, $7,280,845; Western Washington University, $5,931,545; Seattle Pacific University, $5,006,402; Eastern Washington University, $2,943,873; Saint Martin's University, $2,814,722; Clark College, $1,386,299; Highline Community College, $802,450; and Green River Community College, $630,000.
