Fraudulent diversity press release is circulating
A "press release" generated by an entity outside of Bellingham has been circulating on and off campus, making distorted claims about extremely low diversity levels at WWU. The press release contains inaccurate data about diversity at Western based on a study from an institute that cannot be verified and may be a hoax. The press release references the decision to eliminate the football program at Western.

Further info on additional state budget freezes

Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 5460 was signed into law Feb. 18. The bill in its entirety can be found here. In principle, the act relates to reducing the administrative cost of state government during the 2007-2009 and 2009-2011 fiscal biennia by amending RCW 41.06.070 and creating seven new sections.  RCW 41.06.070 (2) statute applies to executive officers, academic personnel and professional staff at Western Washington University.

Parking Committee seeking feedback at forums

The Parking and Transportation Advisory Committee will hold two public forums this week:

Tuesday Feb. 24 - Noon to 1:30 p.m., OM 340

Friday Feb. 27  -  3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., OM 340

The committee is seeking comments, suggestions, and feedback on the following questions from the campus community to help guide them as we develop the group's recommendations on Parking procedures and rates.


Miller Hall open house set for this Wednesday

There will be an open house to discuss planned renovations to Miller Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Viking Union 567. For more information, click here or go to the University Communications Web site.

  • CST to host sustainability lecture
    A Northwestern University professor will discuss the challenges involved with sustainability during a public lecture at Western Washington University on Tuesday, Feb. 24. Kimberly Gray, a professor in the department of civil and environmental engineering, will present "Energy and the Environment: The Central Challenge of Sustainability," at 6:30 p.m. in Fraser Hall lecture hall 4.
    The lecture is free and is part of the WWU College of Sciences and Technologies Leaders in Their Field lecture series.

  • Three UW students arrested for thefts on WWU campus
    Police have arrested three UW students in connection with a pair of burglaries in a residence hall at Western Washington University over the weekend. Western Police recovered more than $8,000 in stolen property, including laptop computers, in the thefts at Nash Hall on the Bellingham campus.

  • WWU's Flem is GNAC player of the week
    Western Washington University
    first baseman Meghan Flem has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball Player of the Week for Feb. 15-21.

  • Freshmen lead WWU golf to preseason national ranking
    With a lineup that had three true freshmen, the nationally ranked Western Washington University men's golf team is fourth among 19 teams following first-day play Monday, Feb. 23, at the Cal State Bakersfield Intercollegiate Tournament being held at the Seven Oaks Country Club.
