BELLINGHAM - Western Washington University's College of Business and Economics Leadership Lunch Program will be hosted by Mark Nelson, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Columbia Bank, on Friday, Feb. 13, in Tacoma.

The Leadership Lunch Program recognizes students who have distinguished themselves through scholarship and leadership while in WWU's College of Business and Economics.  This recognition is bestowed on them by way of nominations from faculty in their respective departments.

Students being honored at this luncheon include Janna Mathews, Finance, Silverdale; Brandon Myking, Economics, Puyallup; Benjamin Bortner, Accounting and Finance, Bellingham; Megan DesRosiers, Decision Sciences, Lynnwood; Rocky White, Management, Auburn; Evan Binkley, MBA, Ventura, Calif.

At these lunches students meet and engage in conversation with successful business leaders about their career development and the challenges associated with effective leadership in organizations.

The lunch provides an opportunity for business professionals to contribute to the educational mission of the College of Business and Economics through their contacts with students, one another, and the faculty.  This event also offers students the opportunity to discuss the challenges of effective leadership within organizations with industry leaders.

WWU's Center for Management Excellence provides a wide variety of opportunities to connect business and industry leaders with faculty and students to teach and promote effective leadership strategies. Leadership Luncheons receive support from the Western Washington University Foundation, the university's private fundraising arm.

The program for this academic year is sponsored by Bob Flynn, senior vice president and general manager of Attachmate.
