Wayne Horvitz and Gravitas Quartet to perform Jan. 28

Western Washington University's Department of Music will host renowned composer and pianist Wayne Horvitz and his Gravitas Quartet for a performance at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, in the PAC Concert Hall. Gravitas Quartet blends jazz improvisation with modern composition to create compelling and unique music. "Gravitas are top-caliber musicians with a very interesting approach and we're excited to have them performing on campus and interacting with our students," said WWU Associate Professor of Music Bruce Hamilton.

    Can a 33-year-old man from Sequim help save the American automobile industry? Richard Duff, one of the youngest body designers at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, aims to do his part. Duff designed the exterior of the 2010 Buick LaCrosse, General Motors' answer to Lexus-level luxury sedans. ... After high school, Duff went to Peninsula College, where professors such as Dan Underwood inspired him to pursue two degrees: one in Engineering Technology from Western Washington University and one in transportation design from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif.
